Year 7's defeated in first District League game

The year 7 basketball squad lost 42 - 20 last night to a strong St Columbas side in their first District League game. We ended the first quarter 8 - 8 but struggled to match our opponents speed and shooting ability in the second and third quarter. We passed the ball well at times and rebounded strongly at both ends of the court. Lewis, Olivia and Will rebounded particularly strongly with Will and Morgan shooting with control. There is a lot of potential for the future and the team should be pleased with their progress in their first two games.

Hemel too strong for Under 15 girls

The Under 15 girls team found it tough going last night against an older and more experienced Hemel team in their second County League match. With a team predominantly form year 9, we played against a year 10 team containing at least 4 East of England players, eventually losing 22 - 72. The team showed a great spirit and hopefully learnt an awful lot playing against a talented and well drilled team. The squad can still qualify for the County semi finals and should take heart from the fact that Hemel are likely to be the strongest team in the competition this year.

Under 13 Boys suffer two narrow defeats

The Under 13 Boys began their County League programme with two narrow defeats to Turnford and Sheredes school. In our first game against Turnford we started well, leading 12 - 6 after the first quarter but then struggled to rebound well as a team, eventually losing 42 - 34. Against Sheredes last night we lost the first three quarters by only a couple of points and, although we won the last quarter 10 - 5, we still went down 31 - 28. Our rebounding was much improved but a host of missed shots from close to the basket in the first quarter made the difference. The team performance was much better against Sheredes and the team are starting to put key coaching points into practice. It is only a matter of time before our first win. Ed Anders and Danny Cutmore deserve a special mention for their rebounding and hard work on defence. Ted Rainford showed good shot technique scoring a couple of late baskets against Sheredes and George Mudd worked extremely hard in his first game of the season.

Under 14 boys are District Champions!

Well done to the Under 14 boys squad who have continued their good form from last season, winning 4 out of 4 in the District League to become District Champions. They defeated St Albans Boys School 57 - 24 in the final league game to clinch the title (see the year 9 page for stats and results). Jamie Moroney and Aidan Gastaldi Davies top scored with 28 points each. This is the first time in many years that we have won a District title. The squad have been excellent this season so far and should take great confidence as they go into their County League fixtures.

Under 13 girls find Queens too strong

The Under 13 girls had another tough game against strong opponents in their second County League basketball match. The team were very inexperienced with only 2 players having played 3 games or more. At 28 – 2 down at the end of the first quarter we could have capitulated but instead we came back to win the second quarter 8 – 2 and the fourth 2 – 0. Mei led the team well and Eliza’s rebounding helped us at both ends of the court. Naomi and Renae were making their debut’s and became more confident and effective as the game progressed. Hopefully, having played two of the strongest teams in the County, the improvement in performance in the second half should give us confidence in our next fixture.

Under 14's one game away from District Championship

The Under 14 Boys squad played their best game of the season so far to beat St Georges 82 - 18 in the District League. Their team defence and excellent passing on offence were key to a really solid team effort to which everyone contributed. It was nice to see players previously reluctant to drive to basket having the confidence to do so. Josh, Jake and Ben had possibly their best games for school with Joe, Aidan and Jamie all playing to their usual high standards. If we can maintain this level of performance we will be hard to beat this season. Well done boys!

Under 16 Girls win Sandringham Friendly

A mixed year 9, 10 and 11 girls team played against Sandringham at Francis Bacons Sports Hall tonight. The whole squad, captained by Cleme Lewis, played very well and gelled as a team in a convincing 40 - 10 win. Hopefully this bodes well for the Senior County final in March which will be a much stiffer test. Well done to all the girls that played and particularly the year 9 playing up two age groups. Individual and team stats can be found on the Senior team page.

Under 14 Boys 2 for 2 in the District League

Well done to the Under 14 boys who beat Verulam 38 - 22 in the District League tonight. Jamie Moroney and Aidan Gastaldi Davies both top scored with 16 points in a solid team performance. The whole squad got plenty of court time which will benefit them as the season progresses. If we can beat St Georges on Wednesday then one more win will see the team become District Champions.

Year 7 squad narrowly beaten in their first game

The year 7 basketball squad had their first game on Friday 19th November against Sandringham. With 17 players playing it was difficult to get into a settled rhythm but all members of the squad concentrated well and worked extremely hard against a team who were having their second game. Scores were tied after each quarter with Sandringham scoring in the last 2 minutes to edge the game 20 -18. A number of players stood out for Beaumont. Lewis Montgommery Moore and Jacob Bockenhauer rebounded extremely well, particularly on defence, and Will Moroney shot well from under the basket, scoring 6 of our 18 points. Callum Walker and Joe Byers both brought the ball down the court with control and Jay Gurney and Olivia Almond played some excellent defence. Olivia also hit two excellent shots to bring the score back to 18 all in the final quarter. The squad has real potential and improvement in one or two areas they will be very competitive both at District and County level.

Year 10 Boys maintain unbeaten run

The year 10 boys team opened their County League account with an impressive 86 – 26 win against Richard Hale School last night. The whole squad were able to get plenty of court time and our passing and movement on offence was excellent at times. Aidan Gastaldi Davies (year 9) top scored with 32 points and rebounded well at both ends of the court. The next game is against St Mary’s on the 1st December and if we win it will be 5 wins out of 5 for the season. Well done to the whole squad.

Senior Boys show battling qualities

Well done to the Senior Boys squad who showed last night that they are real contenders yet again for the County Final. Without their captain for 3 of the 4 quarters, the squad played intelligent zone defence and controlled offence to always keep a talented and dangerous St Georges squad at arms length. Owen McDermott took on the captains responsibility and led the team brilliantly, supported in that role by Andy and Duncan. Jamie Moroney and Kieron Gastadi Davies, who were both at least two years out of age, played with confidence and contributed significantly to the win. A couple of the squad did not get on but will have a significant part to play later in the season. Thank you to the boys who pulled together after a difficult first quarter and have now put us in a prime position to qualify for the County Semi Final. Final score: St Georges 57 - Beaumont 69.

Senior Boys too strong for Hemel

The Senior boys team started theirCounty League campaign with a comfortable 107 - 31 win against a young Hemel side. Although comfortable, the performance demonstrated maturity and control on a very difficult and slippy surface. Tayo top scored with 43 points and Adam Luck rebounded well in his first time as a starting 5 player. Duncan worked extremely hard as point guard (and entertained the bench with some extravagent shooting!), as did Max Robson who played two age groups up. Freddie and Joe both grew in confidence as the game progressed with Andy and Owen both showing strength and technique under the basket. Next weeks game against St Georges will be a much stiffer test but this performance should give us great confidence.

Under 14 Boys beat St Columbas in District League

The Under 14 boys team started their season strongly beating St Columbas 70 - 40 in their first District League game. The first quarter saw some excellent rebounding and good movement on offence and we went in 23 - 6 ups. We maintained this cushion throughout with some good outside shooting from Jamie Moroney and strong rebounding late on from Aidan Gastaldi Davies and Dan Hartwell. Joe O'Shea and Ben Hackwood both played well as point guard. Our aim should now be to win the District League.
Well done to the whole squad. Check out your game stats on the Under 14 page!

Under 15 Girls leave it late

Well done to the under 15 girls team who opened their County League account with a narrow 30 - 29 win over a quick and hard working Turnford side. 23 - 12 down at half time a victory looked unlikely. However, some aggressive team defence, strong driving to the basket from Shriya and Holly, and great rebounding from Emma and Aisha saw us score 12 points without reply in the last quarter. Well played to the whole squad on a really excellent win.

Brilliant Beaumont stun Sandringham

Well done to the Under 15 boys who have now beaten both of last years County Finalists and have won three from three in the District League. This means one more win will see them crowned District Champions for the first time. Last nights 101 – 48 win against Sandringham was the teams best performance to date and was based on great team defence and some excellent movement and passing on offence. The whole squad played their part and the performance bodes extremely well for the rest of the season at both County and National level.

Players of the match, all with 2 votes each: Jamie Moroney; Kieron Gastaldi Davies and Aidan Gastaldi Davies. Well played boys!

Holly shines for East of England

Well done to Holly Seglah who competed for the East of England in the Under 13 girls Inter Regional Tournament. The competition was at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre on the 30th and 31st of October and 10 teams competed from all over England. The East team competed very well coming a creditable 3rd out of 10. Hopefully Holly will inspire the Under 15 team this Thursday to a win in their first County League game against Turnford!

Under 13 girls tough first game

Beaumont's under 13 girls squad had a baptism of fire in their first County League game on Thursday 21st October. Only 3 of the mixed year 7 and 8 squad had played a competitive game before and faced a year 8 squad from Bridgewater School with a number of County players. We were 22 - 2 down after the first quarter but battled extremely hard and finished the game 44 - 4. The improvement over the last three quarters was superb and with a little more composure when shooting, the score could have been much closer. It was also great to see a squad of 11 players and I am looking forward to a number of wins this season in the County League. Well done to all of the girls who played.

Players of the match: After a very close vote between all 5 nominated players Mai Plumstead and Ella Rowlinson share the player of the match award. Well done to both of you!

Next match Thursday 11th November, Home v Turnford

Great win for Under 15 boys

The Under 15 boys opened their District League account with a 91 - 12 win over Verulam. The whole squad played extremely well with points spread around a number of players. A special mention should go to Aret Fabregat and Jamie Renfrew who both scored points on their debut. Kieron Gastaldi Davies top scored with 25 points. Individual stats can be seen on the Under 15 page. Well done for a great start to the season!

Senior Boys Rally

Well done to the 12 boys who competed in the Senior County Rally last night. Having beaten Richard Hale and St Mary's comfortably in the group stage (37-8 and 24-15 respectively)we then travelled to St Columbas for the final. At half time we were 16-14 up but unfortunately lost 32-25. Last year we went to the same tournament, did not win a game but then went on to become County Champions, so the signs are good for the rest of the season. Well done to Andy Morgan who was our player of the tournament and to Kieron Gastadi Davies, Max Robson (both year 10) and Jamie Moroney (year 9) who were outstanding considering they were all playing well above their usual age group.

Squad: Tayo Oyefusi (captain); Owen McDermott; Andrew Morgan; Duncan Maguire; Max Sanderson; Freddie Brown; Adam Luck; Sam Adamson;Joe Kaloczi; Max Robson;
