Under 15 Girls remain unbeaten

A great comeback saw the Under 15 girls back up their District Championship win with an impressive 33 - 30 victory over a strong Queens team in the County League. We were 10 - 2 down early in the first quarter but fought back to 12 - 8 at the finish. The second quarter saw us level at 18 all by half time and then we scored 14 unanswered points to pull away by the end of the third quarter. We maintained the lead in the fourth, with Holly Brando Holahan scoring 16 points and Olivia Almond 13. Frankie Cross played well in her first ever game, whilst Naomi Baker and Adi Milton were excellent on defence. Well done to the whole squad who have made a very impressive start to the season.

Under 14 Boys win impressively

A very solid opening performance saw the Under 14 boys beat Hitchin 82 - 39 in the County League tonight. The first half was very open, with some excellent driving to the basket from our top scorer, Lewis Montgomery Moore (32 points) and some strong offensive rebounding. Our defence was a little loose which meant we went in 27 points up at the break. The second half was much tighter defensively, with the team working well as a unit to defend the keyway. This was reflected by the team only conceding 8 points in the whole half, an excellent display. Bradley Roberts (11), Joe Byers (19) and Jacob Bockenhauer (14) all contributed well to the team score, whilst James Procter and Matthew Ellis both had their best games so far for Beaumont (Matt was Most Improved Player tonight). A very good start from the whole squad which bodes well for the rest of the season, well done!

Girls complete District Tournament clean sweep!

Congratulations to the Under 12 (year 7), Under 14 (Year 8 & 9) and Under 16 (Year 9, 10 and 11) girls squads who all won their respective District tournaments this week.
On Tuesday the year 7 squad competed beat Sandringham and Roundwood and drew with Sir John Lawes in their first ever competitive matches. The whole squad worked really hard with Emma Malley the Beaumont MVP of the tournament for her outstanding defence, particularly against Roundwood Park. Claudia Smith top scored with 8 points with captain Pippa Palmer scoring 6.
On Wednesday the Year 8 & 9 squad played in a 6 team tournament, beating Nicholas Breakspear, Loreto, Roundwood, Sandringham and Sir John Lawes on their way to becoming District Champions. They scored 69 points and conceded only 8 in a very impressive performance on both offence and defence. MVP was Holly Brando who top scored with 34 points, Olivia Almond scored 16 and Morgan Jeggo 14. Izzy Vine Lott and Molly Rogan did very well in their first ever games for Beaumont.
Tonight the Under 16 squad defeated Sir John Lawes, Roundwood and Nicholas Breakspear to complete a District clean sweep. The team, made up from three year groups gelled very well, passing the ball fluently in all three matches. Annabel and Felicity were playing their first basketball matches and did extremely well. MVP Holly Seglah top scored with 11 points whilst Aisha Akinbinu hit 10 points and also played extremely well. Naomi Baker played some excellent defence, whilst Felicity hit 4 points in the final game.
The Under 12 and Under 14 teams now go onto the Partnership County Finals early in December.
Stats for all three teams can be found on the individual age group pages.
Well done to all three squads who have maintained an unbeaten run for all Beaumont basketball teams in District competition so far this year!

Year 7 Boys narrow defeat to Sandringham

The year 7 boys team narrowly lost 21 - 16 to Sandringham on Friday night in a very competitive game. Both teams showed improvement from their last game and, when we passed the ball quickly and accurately, we scored some excellent baskets.
Playing 20 squad members meant that we lacked continuity at times, but the result was secondary to the performance and opportunity to see as many players as possible in a competitive game.
Well done to everyone who played, there is real potential in this squad and I look forward to seeing them progress over the next few years.

Year 9/10 Boys continue their unbeaten run

Well done to the year 9 and 10 combined District League Basketball squad who continued their impressive unbeaten run with a 37 - 27 win over Nicholas Breakspear on Monday. This means they are unbeaten in the league after four matches. Lewis Montgomery Moore and Danny Cutmore were our top scorers, whilst James Dempsey had his best game for school as point guard. The whole squad are playing with growing confidence and should look forward to our toughest test yet against Roundwood Park on Monday. Well done to the whole squad.

Great start for year 7 & year 10 boys

Wel done to the year 7 and year 10 boys teams who have both started the season positively. The year 10 team have beaten Sir John Lawes (40 - 28) and Samuel Ryder Academy (38 - 4) in their two District League matches and the mix of year 10 and year 9 players has worked well. Jacob Bockenhauer and Danny Cutmore are the top points scorers so far and we began to see some positive defensive turnovers and offensive rebounding in the last game. Verulam and Sandringham are our next two opponents and will be a measure of how we have progressed this season.
The year 7 boys, after only three practices, played Sandringham on Friday. Their 26 - 4 win was a very positive start and a good points total considering the lack of practice time. We rebounded well at both ends of the court and, when we passed rather than dribbled, moved the ball down the court effectively. Joseph Brando top scored with 8 points with Taylor Jeggo and Owen Carrick not far behind with 4 each. Although there is always a lot to work on, this is a positive start and the boys should be pleased with their level of effort and ability to try and put coaching points into practice. Our next game is the return fixture against Sandringham on the 12th October.
Well done to both squads!

Under 16 Boys reach National Final for a second year running!

After travelling to Nottingham on Friday 11th May, we arrived at the Wildcats Arena to compete in our second National Final 4 in 2 years. We met our quarter Final opponents from last year, Holy Trinity School, in this years semi final and started extremely well. We went 12 - 6 up after the first quarter and extended this lead by 2 at half time. A strong third quarter, where our defence was a lot more positive and aggressive, saw us win it 19 - 12, giving us a 46 - 31 lead going into the last quarter. We played smart in the last quarter, conserving energy for the final and held our opponenets at arms length, winning 52 - 40. Kieron top scored with 21 points, Jamie hit 14 points and Aidan 9. Jack, Ben and particularly Josh played some great defence and everyone contributed well to the win.
Our early tip off (9.30am) in the semi meant we could watch a fast and competitive second semi final between Greig Academy and Danum College, which Greig eventually won 75 - 59 after a really tight first three quarters.
Our final was a real clash of styles with Greig Academy, Hackney playing a fast break and aggressive man to man defensive system. We played a more controlled team based offence and help defence, where we would back up the man marking the player with the ball. We started well and were only 3 down after the first quarter and although we stayed in touch and were only 4 down at half time, we had missed a number of inside shots which could have given us a lead. The Greig number 9 hit 29 points and hit 3 important 3 pointers which pulled them 8 points clear at the end of the third. Kieran had an outstanding game, scoring an impressive 44 points also hitting three 3 point shots and would have been MVP in the final if we had managed to overturn this 8 point deficit. We worked extremely hard in the fourth and won it by 2 points. Thi however meant a 6 point loss, no disgrace against a very strong Academy team. It was a great performance and the result only hinged on very small margins and on another day we may well have come out on top.
The Under 16 boys squad have been tremendous over their whole time at Beaumont, winning a District Championships,  two County Cups, runners up in one, a National Championships and Runners up in this years Nationals, They also remained unbeaten for almost two seasons, winning 29 straight games.
The boys were obviously disappointed to lose in the final but when they look back at their record over the last couple of years they should be extremely proud of what they have achieved. Well done to all of the boys who played this year, you have been a credit to Beaumont.

Boys reach final 4 in a thriller!

The Under 16 boys reached the National final 4 after a tense but exciting away fixture against Weavers School. A first half that saw us play a little passively on defence, meant we were 8 points down. A much more focussed third quarter saw us take a 6 point lead. The fourth quarter was nip and tuck and finished 65 - 65 which meant 5 minutes of overtime. We went into the last minute 71 - 69 up but then conceded a three pointer and were one point down with 4.5 seconds remaining! Kieran then picked up the ball from an inbound and drove the ball to the basket, scoring a pressure lay up to leave Weavers one point down with half a second remaining. A desperate three point attempt was missed and the squad booked themselves another journey to Nottingham Wildcats arena for the National Finals. Once again, the squad showed that even when not at their best they find a way to win, a trait of a very good team. Well done to them all, they are now only two wins away from back to back National titles!

Under 16 boys cruise into the last 8

A comfortable 91 - 64 win against Queensbury saw the Under 16 boys move into the last 8 of the Nationals. An excellent first half saw the team play some strong help defence and score heavily to take control 57 - 27 by half time. The second half was more scrappy, but the team keep Queensbury at arms length and scoring some nice baskets on the break.
The next round is Wednesday 25th against Weavers School, Wellingborough. We will be leaving at 12.15pm and tipping off at 2.30pm. If we win, we will be in the final 4 on the 12th May at Nottingham Widcats arena, the venue for our Nationals win last year.
Another strong performance with Kieran top scoring again with 33 points.
Many thanks to the staff and parents who came to support the team and also a big thank you to Dan Angus, Will Moroney and Jacob Bockenhauer who were table officials for the game.

Aidan selected for England!

Congratulations to Aidan Gastaldi Davies was notified over Easter that he has now been selected for the final England basketball team.
Aidan has attended 4 camps/trials since November and has been selected for the final squad of 12 from an initial squad of around 35. The team will be competing at U15s level in an International Tournament in Copenhagen in June from 21st to 24th June .

This is an outstanding achievement, and the culmination of a great deal of hard work and dedication over a number of years. Everyone at Beaumont wishes Aidan evey success in Copenhagen and I am sure it will be a great experience for him. It is fantastic for Beaumont to have someone competing at this level and should be an inspiration for other basketball players lower down the school.
Well done Aidan and good luck!

Under 16 Boys reach Nationals last 16!

A very close and tense game saw Beaumont beat Copleston High School, Ipswich 80 - 79 to reach the last 16 of the England Basketball Schools National Conference competition.
A disappointing first half defensive display saw us 42 - 37 down at half time. We changed our defensive set up at half time which saw Kieran then Aidan mark their key player with a three man zone set up behind them and the fifth player defending the three point line. This rstricted their key shooter to 22 points in the second half (35 in the first!) and meant that we could pressure the ball and fast break more effectively. Kieran scored 35 points and once again led the team extremely well.
The next round is this Thursday, 3.30pm tip off at Francis Bacon School. The squad will need to meet at the changing rooms at 2.40pm, we should be finished by 5.30/6.00pm.
Please come and support the squad and hopefully we will be in the last 8 by the end of the week!
Once again, well done to the whole squad.

Beaumont Bsketball Season Round Up 2011/12

Congratulations to all of the teams this season. For the first time ever we reached all three girls finals, unfortunately losing to three strong opponents in each final. If we can increase our squad numbers and develop our shooting as whole squads, we have every chance of winning one or more finals next year.
The year 7 boys had a limited number of games but were dedicated to training and had an excellent finish to the season, finishing 3rd out of 13 teams in the County Rally. This emulated the year 8 boys position from last year and they went on to reach the Under 13 semi final, losing narrowly to St Columbas. The have had a year of significant development, based on high numbers to training and a real enthusiasm and work ethic.
The year 10 boys team struggled early in the season with injury and were unlucky to lose by 1 point to St Columbas in the County Semi Final.
The Under 16 boys squad have once again had an outstandind season so far. They have won the County League for the second consecutive year, defeating St Columbas 70 - 52 in that final. They are still competing in the National Championships and are at the Regional round stage. They have been unbeaten in all competitions (District County and National) for 2 years and 21 games, an outstanding effort. Hopefully this will continue against Copleston School, Ipswich the first Tuesday back after half term.
Although this season has not been quite as successful as last year, we still reached 4 county finals, a county rally final 3 and 2 other county semi finals and are still in one National Competition. We therefore reached at least the semi final of every County Competition entered.
For us to now build on this success we need to increase our squad numbers as we often rely on small but talented squads.
Thank you to all who have played and officiated this year, another excellent season!!

Under 16 Boys reach County Final

Congratulations to the Under 16 Boys who have reached their third consecutive County Final and remain unbeaten since the County Final of year 9. The final tips off at 8.00pm on Monday and the  squad need to see Mr Stewart on Monday to confirm that they are available and can meet at St Columbas at 7.30pm. Well done on another excellent season, lets see if we can retain our title!

Girls just fall short in the County League

Well done to the girls squads who reached all 3 County Finals last week. Unfortunately we lost all 3 finals (to Queens in the Under 15 and 18 finals, and JFK in the Under 13 final). The senior final saw us come closest losing by only 2 points, a reversal of last years result. All three teams have performed well this year and with larger squads and more consistent attendance to training I am sure we can go one step further next year. Well done to all of the girls who have played this year, three County Finals is still an excellent season!

Under 13 boys first win in the District League

Well done to the Under 13 Boys who won 67 - 41 against Verulam in the District League tonight. Last season we had lost this fixture but tonight demonstrated the progress we have made, particularly in our individual shooting. Our team defence was better tonight but is still an area that needs work.
Our next game is against STABS next Tuesday and is an away game.
Well done on another excellent victory.

Under 13 boys play St Columbas on Monday

Next Monday (6th February) the Under 13 boys play their first District League game away against St Columbas. The team sheet is on the notice board at the gym

Under 15 girls narrowly lose to Queens but Under 16 Boys win again

The Under 15 girls lost narrowly, 36 - 32 to Queens in the County League this evening. The girls started slowly, losing the first quarter by 4 which would ultimately be our margin of defeat. The team then played well in the last three quarters, winning 2 of them with Holly Seglah top scoring with 15 points and Holly Brando Hollahan from year 8 hitting 13 points. A more controlled start and more accurate foul shooting could have led to a victory but the whole squad should still be very pleased with the overall performance. Two more wins will still see us in the semi final.

The Under 16 boys made it 6 out of 6 with a comfortable 70 - 42 point win over St Columbas. This is our third win in the County League and means we have already qualified for the semi finals. A performance which saw us outscore St Columbas in everyquarter, was based on some excellent shooting from outside (Kieron hit 30 points, almost half from 3 pointers) and strong rebounding from both ends of the court. Ben and Josh played some excellent defence whilst Aidan and Jamie shot well both inside and from outside. A win against Stanborough next Wednesday will hopefully see us top the group and have a home draw in the County semi final after half term. Well done to the whole squad on another excellent performance.

Under 15 Girls game off again!!

Apologies once again to the Under 15 Girls Squad who must be getting particularly frustrated with opponents cancelling on us this season. Longdean have had to cancel the fixture tomorrow and, based on the fact this is late notice and the game has to be played by half term, they have given us the victory. This means we receive an automatic 20 - 0 victory and are 1 for 1 in the County League. We are scheduled to have a home game this Thursday against Queens School. Lets hope we can finally get our season up and running!!

Under 13 Boys make county semi's

Congratulations to the Under 13 boys who, by defeating Cheshunt 36 - 21 have reached the semi finals of the County League. A poor start saw Cheshunt take an early lead, but a run of 17 points without reply saw us take control of the game. The second half saw us match Cheshunt point for point in a performance which lacked a little defensive cohesion and saw us dribble the ball rather than pass it too often. That said, this was a steady performance where we still won relatively comfortably without playing at our best, the sign of a good team.
Lewis top scored with 16 points, whilst Jacob Bockenhauer was not far behind with 12. Ryan Thomas and Connor Mitchell both rebounded well, particularly on defence in only their second games. Jay Gurney captained the team in Zach and Will's absence and did a good job.
Well done to the whole squad who have backed up last years County Rally final with another strong display in their County competition.

Boys and Girls have mixed results in the County League

Tonight saw the Under 15 Boys and Senior Girls both play in the County League. Although the boys won and girls lost, both teams progress in the competition.
The girls played last years finalists, Queens and struggled to out rebound and deal with the strong driving of the Queens players. A number of year 10 girls played with Aisha being the pick of them, rebounding strongly at both ends of the court. Alex and Karis played their first game this season and rebounded and passed the ball effectively. Daria Khoyi made her first appearance for the team and, although only coming on briefly, she showed a competitive approach that boads well for the future. Cleme top scored with 20 points and worked extremely hard as always. It is likely we will meet Queens in the final later in the season and there is no reason why we cannot be competitive based on tonights performance.
The Under 15 boys had to win tonight to guarantee a semi final place and did so with a 57 - 47 win against Richard Hale.Jamie (23 points) and Aidan (21 points) scored he majority of the points tonight but it was nice to see Jake and Chris on the scoresheet and all but one of the team scoring points tonight.
Well done to the squad on qualifying for the semi finals again this year.

Under 16 Boys reach Nationals Regional Round

The Under 16 Boys put in their second excellent performance of the week defeating Hemel 94 - 43 tonight in their final ESBBA National Schools group game. With a depleated squad we played a zone defence and after taking a couple of minutes to adapt to it played it very effectively. We played controlled and fluent offence with Max, Kieron and Luke rebounding well on offence. Jack found space and drove the ball well, whilst Josh contributed with numerous assists and drives. We played with control and maturity which bodes well for the next round. We are playing Great Baddow school from Essex in the next round and details can be found on the England Basketball Website, Schools competitions, Under 16 Boys Conference. Well done on an excellent season so far.

NEXT WEEKS FIXTURES

Monday 30th Under 13 Boys v Cheshunt (H)
Tuesday 31st Under 15 Girls v Longdean (A)
Thursday 2nd Under 16 Boys v St Columbas (A)

Under 16 Boys 4 and 0

The Under 16 boys continued their unbeaten run since the start of last season with a comfortable 64 - 32 win against St Mary's in the County League. Playing well within themselves, the boys controlled the game from start to finish with a mature all round team performance. No one dominated the points scoring and it was great to see the whole team operating as a unit and trusting each other in all facets of the game. It is very easy to showboat or play as an individual in a relatively comfortable game like this and it was pleasing to see a thoughtful approach from the whole squad. Hemel are next tomorrow in the Nationals and that will certainly be a more challenging fixture.

Squad: Kieron (c), Jack, Max, Jamie, Aidan, Ben.

Under 16 Boys win again in the Nationals

Well done to the Under 16 Boys who defeated Sandringham for the second time this season to move within one win of the Regional section of the ESBBA Nationals. A sluggish first half performance which saw us leading by 9 was turned around in the second half where our more aggressive defence and stronger rebounding saw us finish 82 - 64 winners. Kieron top scored with 20 points but the whole squad played contributed to the win. Max and Jamie rebounded well in the second half, with Jamie hitting his mid range shots consistently. Josh and Ben gave us a good platform from point guard whil st Jack and Aidan drove well to the basket. A win against Hemel next Wednesday will see us progress from the group. Well done on an excellent unbeaten start.

No Under 15 girls game tomorrow

There is no Under 15 girls basketball game tomorrow against Turnford. They have withdrawn from the league due to a lack of interest from their players. Apologies for the lack of games so far, hopefully we will get  some fixtures played before half term!

Year 7 & 8 boys results this week

The Year 7 boys team played their second game in the District League on Wednesday. Against an athletic and competitive Verulam team we lost 27 - 14, improving in the fourth quarter but struggling against solid man to man defence and finding it hard to defend well against strong dribbling.
The year 8 boys played tonight against Hitchin Boys in the County League. With Zach and Jacob missing through injury it meant other boys would get more court time. The whole squad made the best of it, winning 65 - 49 against a previously undefeated team this season. We drove the ball to the basket strongly (particularly Lewis, Will and Joe) and worked hard individually on defence. One more win in the league should mean we have a good chance of qualifying for the County semi finals. Well done to the whole squad for an excellent team performance. Individual stats for these games should be on the blog by Monday.

Under 15 Boys back on track

An excellent 80 - 12 win for the Under 15 boys in their second County League match against Chauncy suggests that we could still make the County semi finals. An excellent captains performance from Aidan and direct driving to the basket by Ben was backed up well by some positive, and intelligent offence from the rest of the squad. The team passed the ball very well at times and, even with conditions put on the team to challenge them, they scored freely and with fluency. Will Moroney (year 8) passed the ball with confidence and disguise while playing point, whilst Lewis Montgomery Moore (also year 8) and Joe Matos (year 9) drove to the basket with confidence. Dan and Luke rebounded very well, with Dan hitting 12 points, his best return of the season. Jake also rebounded well, moved off the ball and maintained possession as well as he has done all season. A pleasing result, both in score line and in the intelligence shown on court when challenged by a variety of conditions on play. Well done to the whole squad and particularly to those boys who stepped up one or even two age groups!

Year 7 Boys win their first match

Congratulations to the year 7 boys squad who won their first District League match 30 - 6 against Sir John Lawes this evening. An excellent defensive display coupled with some slick passing at times meant that we have made a very encouraging start to the season. If we can improve our shot selection and technique, and pivot into triple threat every time we get the ball, we will become even more effective as a team. Squad players can check their stats on the year 7 page and can vote for their player of the match. Our next match in the District League is away, next Wednesday against Verulam. Well done to the whole squad.
